How To Live a Less Stressful Life In 5 Simple Daily Habits.

I was a NICU Nurse, I have to deal with stress every single day. Yes, every single day and sometimes including weekends. I work 8-12 hours, worst 16 hours when the next shift nurse not able to go to work. I love my job, I enjoyed being able to take care these little Angels, and it’s a fulfilling experience. However, I can not deny that it’s a toxic environment that I have to deal with stress every day. And being in that place over and over was just mentally and emotionally draining. But being a nurse, I learned on how to manage daily stress positively and it became just a normal way of life for me.

We all have different level of stress, stressful for me may not stressful for you. But stress is a major problem for many people. A stressful job, a chaotic family life, relationships, bills to worry about, bad habits such as unhealthy eating, drinking and smoking can lead to a stressful life. And sometimes, no matter how much we ignore it, stress still runs and surrounds to our daily lives.
My life will probably never be stress free, because stress is something that gives me a lot of challenge in life and help me grow. And sometimes, when stress gets too high, I learned to find ways to manage my stress positively.
If your life is full of stress, like mine once was, there are some simple things you can do to get your life to a more manageable level, and here’s how I learned to manage my stress level.
1. Relaxation Techniques
For me my most effective relaxation technique is to take a DEEP BREATH. I take 5-10 deep breaths, inhale and exhale and close my eyes. Whenever I do this, I usually experience instant relaxation and improve my focus in the present moment.
It’s simple yet effective technique. But for some people, there are many other ways to feel relax. It could be, get into moving, taking a nap, reading, listening to music they love, or meditation. Find your relaxing activity and try to do it each day.
2. Have Fun Each Day
Find something fun to do each day, even it’s just a few minutes. I like to play with my cute little dog. Playing with my dog, helps me feel more relaxed and she’s my happy pill! And Oh my hilarious husband, when I’m stressed, he knows my flows and he’ll find ways to make me laugh!
There are many ways, to have fun each day. Maybe for you, it could be watching movies, playing sports, chatting with friends, or meeting new people. Whatever you choose, make sure to laugh.
3. Practice Positive Affirmations
Avoid the negative self-talk. Sometimes, when we are highly stressed, we bombard ourselves with negative thoughts and feelings. Everyday I write 3-5 positive affirmations about myself and these affirmations helps me to remember my strengths and I’m able managed my stress more positively.
By thinking positive thoughts during times of stress, you can refocus your energy to remind yourself of what you are capable of doing.
4. Focus At The Present Moment
Sometimes, we spent our day stressing about a lot of things and about to happen. And yes, it gives us unhappiness and stress instead of enjoying and relaxing. Life is too short to worry too much about things, that we sometimes forget to be happy and find happiness. So instead of stressing yourself too much about what’s going to happen, live at the present moment in time and enjoy what life has to offer.
5. Be Creative
There are a lot of things I like to do that helps me feel less stress. I like Zumba dancing as it’s my way of working out and sweating out. I also like writing, reading, and painting, these are my creative activity that helps me feel less stress.
Find creative activity to de-stress and prevent stress. Whatever activity you choose, make sure it will help you feel less stress.
Life will always throw punches at us, but we can control how much we let stress affect us by learning how to manage them positively. I won’t guarantee that these will work for you. They worked for me, but each person is different. Pick and choose the ones that will work best for you, and give them a try. One baby step at a time.
